1-800-GOT-SCRAP program aims to collect 110 cars to be donated to fire training center in Anaheim for firefighter lessons.

ANAHEIM – Rescue. Recycle. Reuse.

Orange County firefighters and SA Recycling of Anaheim are teaming up for a new take on the adage.

Through SA’s program, 1-800-GOT-SCRAP, cars ready to be recycled for scrap metal are instead being collected and first sent to the North Net Fire Training Facility in Anaheim.

Firefighters will use the vehicles for training, learning how to extricate wounded passengers with the Jaws of Life and other rescue techniques.

Then the cars will go back to the recycling yard to be chopped into metal chunks and recycled to make new cars. Donors can expect to receive $200 to $450 for their vehicles, depending on the car’s weight, said Cristi Rossi, vice president of operations for 1-800-GOT-SCRAP.

While some owners might get more of a tax write-off for donating a car to charity, organizers of the recycling program hope that donors will consider getting cash instead – and the satisfaction of knowing they are helping firefighters.

“Cars change a lot over the years, and we have trouble getting enough whole cars for training – the type of cars that we would actually come across out on the road,” said Randy Babbitt, a Huntington Beach fire engineer and training instructor. “This is what helps our guys learn how to respond in an actual rescue.”

On a recent day to promote the program, a 1994 BMW 318i was transported from the recycling yard to the training center.

Four Anaheim firefighters sprung into action, popping open all four doors and jamming crowbars into the dashboard, disconnecting the battery and shoving blocks under the frame to stabilize the car.

“Every firefighter goes through this training – three days in the beginning,” said Anaheim Fire Capt. Mark Dunn. “But we constantly need to update our skills to make sure we know how to deal with electric cars and whatever new technology is out on the road.”

The program, which officially launches Tuesday, runs through Nov. 22. Car owners interested in donating can call 1-800-GOT-SCRAP and arrange to drop off a vehicle or have it picked up. Organizers have pledged to donate $50 for each car to the North Net Fire Training Facility, where firefighters from around the county practice.

The goal: 110 cars.

New Service Described As “Recycling On Steroids” Will Take Your Discarded Washers, Dryers, Old Cars, etc For Re-Purposing

A brand new service described as “recycling on steroids” and destined to benefit our planet is being officially launched. 1-800-GOT-SCRAP is available to consumers who have unwanted large-scale metal items such as old cars, dishwashers, washing machines, stoves and refrigerators that need to be discarded. 1-800-GOT-SCRAP will pick them up for a small fee or they may be dropped off at an affiliated recycling center for cash. The items are then shredded, sorted into various pure metals (e.g., steel, aluminum, copper, iron) and shipped overseas to be re-purposed into new appliances and automobiles.

Up until now, many of these massive items have been dumped in city landfills across the country, which has greatly increased our carbon footprint. 1-800-GOT-SCRAP ensures that the materials are re-purposed thus preserving natural resources and reducing greenhouse gases.

“We’ve taken recycling to the extreme,” said George Adams, president of 1-800-GOT-SCRAP’s parent company, SA Recycling. “We launched a pilot program at the end of last year to see how the public would respond and were encouraged by their deep appreciation and encouragement. We have since put our resources behind 1-800-GOT-SCRAP with hopes that, together with the public’s help, we will make a difference in saving our planet.”

According to a recent Harris Poll, recycling is fast becoming a habit with an estimated 77% of Americans who recycle things like old newspapers, aluminum cans and plastic containers. Adams hopes that that this dedication to preserving Mother Earth will spread into a habit for re-purposing large scale metal items.

SA Recycling operates 45 recycling centers in 3 states and expects that 1-800-GOT-SCRAP will expand beyond California in the coming months. For a list of affiliated recycling centers, visit www.GOTSCRAP.com.

New Drive-Through Service Seeks Old Metal Items In Exchange For Cash

You may be sitting on a treasure trove and not even realize it. And that’s why a revolutionary new drive-through recycling center has opened in Simi Valley at 780 East Easy Street. SA Recycling said that the new location – its 45th – will accept any metal item in exchange for cash – from aluminum cans and pots and pans to old appliances, metal drums and plumbing fixtures.

“We’re delighted to mark the debut of our newest drive-through recycling center in Simi Valley and hope to inspire local residents to take a look around their homes and property for any old scrap metal items as doing so may earn them big dollars on the spot,” said Cristi Rossi, executive vice president of operations for SA Recycling. “We are taking recycling to a new level by accepting not only aluminum cans, which most people associate with the recycling movement, but to also include all metal items that might be lying around their houses.”

Rossi said that the process is simple. Gather all of the items you wish to discard and take them to the center where SA Recycling personnel will unload the items, weigh them and for most items we will pay you cash on the spot. You never have to leave your car.

“You might have an old brass lamp, a refrigerator on the blink or malfunctioning tools laying around the garage just taking up space,” Rossi continued. “Those items may be worthless to you, but not for us. We encourage those living in or around Simi Valley to take a look around the house as they may be sitting on a treasure trove.”

For those who are unable to transport their discarded items, SA Recycling recently introduced a new service, 1-800-GOT-SCRAP. For a small fee, 1-800-GOT-SCRAP will pick up the items. The metal is sent to an facility where it is then shredded, sorted into various pure metals (e.g., steel, aluminum, copper, iron) and shipped overseas to be re-purposed into new appliances and automobiles. Up until now, many of these massive items have been dumped in city landfills greatly increasing our carbon footprint. 1-800-GOT-SCRAP ensures that the materials are re-purposed thus preserving natural resources and reducing greenhouse gases.

1-800-GOT-SCRAP To Give Away Free iTunes To Those Using its Service August 1-14

Here’s news that will be music to the ears of Heavy Metal fans…and that means you! Whether you love rock, pop, MOR, classical or, indeed, heavy metal, music fans of all genres will receive free iTunes gift cards August 1-14 when they take advantage of a new service that’s been described as “recycling on steroids.” During that time, those calling 1-800-GOT-SCRAP to remove unwanted large-scale metal items from their homes will have the traditional $50 pick-up fee waived and will receive a gift card with a value of anywhere between $5 and $25. (Items less than 100 lbs could be subject to a freight charge.)

“So many of us have old appliances, car parts or other metal scrap laying around our garages that could be recycled into new products,” said Cristi Rossi, executive vice president of SA Recycling, parent company of 1-800-GOT-SCRAP. “We hope that the iTunes giveaway will inspire the public to clean out their garages, get rid of their old metal items and become ‘heavy metal fans.’”

Up until now, old appliances and other metal items have been dumped in city landfills across the country, which has greatly increased our carbon footprint. 1-800-GOT-SCRAP ensures that these materials are re-purposed thus preserving natural resources and reducing greenhouse gases. Typically, 1-800-GOT-SCRAP picks up such items from your house for $50. Those looking to earn cash may drop off their discarded items at an affiliated recycling center for cash. The items are then shredded, sorted into various pure metals (e.g., steel, aluminum, copper, iron) and shipped overseas to be re-purposed into new appliances and automobiles.

SA Recycling operates 45 recycling centers in 3 states and expects that 1-800-GOT-SCRAP will expand beyond California and Las Vegas in the coming months. For a list of affiliated recycling centers, visit www.GOTSCRAP.com. Also, “like” them on Facebook at www.facebook.com/GOTSCRAP.

New Service Seeks Old Metal Items and Cardboard In Exchange For Cash

Here’s another reason Las Vegas is renowned for making winners out of people dropping “heavy coin.” A new service has just made its debut that makes cash out of old appliances, steel drums, BBQ sets, dilapidated cars and other metal items. SA Recycling, parent company of 1-800-GOT-SCRAP, has announced the debut of a revolutionary new recycling center at 2780 North Nellis Boulevard in Las Vegas. Those bringing in any old metal objects will receive cash right on the spot, announced Cristi Rossi, executive vice president of operations for SA Recycling.

“Las Vegas has a reputation for taking things to new levels and, indeed, this new service takes recycling to the extreme. Forget about merely collecting aluminum cans as we are looking for major metal objects that we can recycle into new products,” said Rossi. “We hope to inspire local residents to take a look around their homes and property for any old scrap metal items as doing so may earn them big dollars.”

Rossi said that the process is simple. Gather all of the items you wish to discard and take them to the center where SA Recycling personnel will unload the items, weigh them and for most items we will pay you cash on the spot.

1-800-GOT-SCRAP Extends Offer To Give Away Free ITunes To Those Using Its Service Through Month’s End

“Heavy Metal” has been resonating with music fans so far this month as evidenced by the popularity of an iTunes giveaway by a company dedicated to “extreme recycling.” 1-800-GOT-SCRAP will continue to give away free music to those taking advantage of its home pick-up service through the end of August. Those with large-scale metal objects like old dishwashers, refrigerators, weight sets, etc. are encouraged to call 1-800-GOT-SCRAP and the items will be removed at no cost to the homeowner and those making the call will receive an iTunes gift card valued at anywhere between $5 and $25. (Items less than 100 lbs could be subject to a freight charge.)

“Music lovers are really enjoying the free iTunes giveaway, which is helping 1-800-GOT-SCRAP pick up and recycle the metal scrap laying around their garages,” said Cristi Rossi, executive vice president of SA Recycling, parent company of 1-800-GOT-SCRAP.

SA Recycling operates 47 recycling centers in 3 states and expects that 1-800-GOT-SCRAP will expand beyond California and Las Vegas in the coming months. For a list of affiliated recycling centers, visit www.GOTSCRAP.com. Also, “like” them on Facebook at www.facebook.com/GOTSCRAP.

Elinor Lester Continues Her Meteoric Rise Through Management Ranks

While the ports are often thought of as a male-dominated workplace, SA Recycling has named Elinor Lester, a six-year employee, as Port Manager for Terminal Island. In that capacity, she will be responsible for both administrative and operational duties, overseeing budgets, cutting costs while continuing SA Recycling’s strong commitment to community outreach. She also will be working with the operations manager to guarantee the production of high quality material, the safe and efficient loading of vessels and containers, and maintaining the company’s high environmental standards while ensuring the safety of the 150 employees under her supervision.

After spending 10 years in retail management, Lester, a single mother at the time, bravely opted for a career move and enrolled as a full time student at California State University, Long Beach. Immediately following her graduation in 2005, she was hired by SA Recycling as a data entry clerk. She quickly proved her merit and potential, rapidly moving up the ladder into a management position and attaining her current position less than 6 years after her first day on the job.

“Ms. Lester is a tremendous asset to our company,” said SA Recycling Vice President Cristi Rossi. “Having been groomed in the culture of SA Recycling, she has an intimate understanding of the company’s culture and inner workings and a thorough grasp of matters relating to our operations at the port.”

Added Lester, “SA Recycling has a sterling reputation for collecting and recycling scrap, being environmentally friendly, taking care of its employees and serving the communities in which they operate. I feel privileged to continue my service to them in this new capacity.”

SA Recycling is a full-service metal recycler and processor and is recognized as an industry leader. With 47 recycling facilities throughout California, Arizona and Nevada, the company is committed to environmental sustainability and recognizing the importance of protecting our planet. Their new recycling service, 1-800-GOT-SCRAP is revolutionizing large-scale metal recycling, picking up items directly from homes for a low flat fee. These items are then sorted by metal type and shipped overseas to be recycled, repurposed and re-used.
New Recycling Center Seeks Old Metal Items In Exchange For Cash

You may be sitting on a treasure trove and not even realize it. And that’s why a revolutionary new recycling center has opened in Santa Ana at 2006 W 5th Street. SA Recycling said that the new location – one of 47 – will accept any metal item in exchange for cash – from aluminum cans and pots and pans to old appliances, metal drums and plumbing fixtures.

“We’re delighted to mark the debut of our newest recycling center in Santa Ana and hope to inspire local residents to take a look around their homes and property for any old scrap metal items as doing so may earn them big dollars on the spot,” said Cristi Rossi, executive vice president of operations for SA Recycling. “We are taking recycling to a new level by accepting not only aluminum cans, which most people associate with the recycling movement, but to also include all metal items that might be lying around their houses.”

The process is simple. Gather all of the items you wish to discard and take them to the center where SA Recycling personnel will take them off your hands and for most items they will pay you cash on the spot.

“You might have an old brass lamp, a refrigerator on the blink or malfunctioning tools laying around the garage just taking up space,” Rossi continued. “Those items may be worthless to you, but not for us. We encourage those living in or around Santa Ana to take a look around the house as they may be sitting on a treasure trove.”

For those who are unable to transport their discarded items, SA Recycling recently introduced a new service, 1-800-GOT-SCRAP. For a small fee, 1-800-GOT-SCRAP will pick up the items. The metal is sent to a facility where it is then shredded, sorted into various pure metals (e.g., steel, aluminum, copper, iron) and shipped overseas to be re-purposed into new appliances and automobiles. Up until now, many of these massive items have been dumped in city landfills greatly increasing our carbon footprint. 1-800-GOT-SCRAP ensures that the materials are re-purposed thus preserving natural resources and reducing greenhouse gases.
